Nickit Community Day guide: Icy Wind Thievul, 3x Stardust, and what is actually worth it
August 9, 2026 · David · 6 min read
August 16 Nickit CD: 3x catch Stardust, shiny odds, special backgrounds, and why Icy Wind Thievul is a GBL story not a raid story.
Nickit Community Day is one of the better resource days of August, even if Thievul is not a raid meta monster. Three hours of dense spawns, 3× catch Stardust, a shiny debut class rate, special backgrounds, and a real PvP move on the evolution. Date is Sunday, August 16, 2026, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local.
If you grind extras, list keepers and trade bait on the live trade feed while everyone is still hunting Icy Wind and backgrounds.

| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| When | Sun Aug 16, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. local (3 hours) |
| Featured | Nickit (Galar Dark fox) → Thievul (50 candy) |
| Exclusive move | Icy Wind on Thievul if you evolve in the window |
| Evolve window | Event hours plus about 4 hours after (through ~9:00 p.m. local) |
| Shiny | Increased CD rate (community figure about 1 in 25) on wild, research, and lures in the bonus window |
| Hundo CP check (common wild / research band) | 306 is the number people screenshot for a 100% Nickit at the usual CD check CP |
Bonuses that actually matter
| Bonus | When it applies | Play plan |
|---|---|---|
| 3× catch Stardust | 2 to 5 p.m. | Star Pieces on. This is the main reason casuals should show up |
| 2× catch candy | 2 to 5 p.m. | Pinaps on the mon you will power |
| 2× XL candy chance (L31+) | 2 to 5 p.m. | Ultra League Thievul is XL friendly |
| 3-hour incense | Activated in event | Not the same as Daily Adventure Incense |
| 1-hour lures | Event hours | Stack stops with friends |
| +1 special trade (2 total) | Trade window | Burn specials on shinies / backgrounds |
| 50% trade Stardust | Trade window | Lucky specials are cheaper |
| Extended regular Lure Nickit + shiny odds + background chance | 2 to 9 p.m. | If you miss 2 to 5, lures still work for candy and shinies |
Normal catch Stardust is 100. During the three hours you are looking at 300 per catch before weather, medals, and Star Pieces. Stack a Star Piece and you are in real bank territory.
Icy Wind: the whole reason to evolve on time
![]()
Evolve Nickit during the event or in the post-event evolve window to lock Icy Wind. After that, you need an Elite Charged TM.
| Context | Icy Wind note |
|---|---|
| Trainer battles | 60 power, drops opponent Attack one stage |
| Gyms / raids | 60 power Ice damage (not why you build this mon) |
Without the event move, Thievul only has Night Slash and Play Rough as charged options (plus Sucker Punch / Snarl / Quick Attack on the fast side). Icy Wind is the coverage and debuff piece PvP players actually care about.
Do not mass-evolve at 1:50 p.m. Start evolves after 2:00, and leave a candy buffer so you can still evolve good IVs after 5:00 while the window is open.
Is Thievul good? Raids vs GBL
| Role | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Raids / gyms as Dark attacker | Skip for meta. Low max CP (~2415), middling stats (Atk 172 / Def 164 / Sta 172). Pure Dark attackers are a deep list; Thievul is not near the top |
| Weaknesses | Bug, Fairy, Fighting |
| Resistances | Dark, Ghost; double resists Psychic |
| Great League | The real story. Rankings move, but Icy Wind + Play Rough (or Night Slash + Icy Wind) opens Grass and Flying matchups and adds a useful Attack drop |
| Ultra League | Can sit under 2500 even near max with Best Buddy, so bulk is available if you spend XL |
If you only raid, still play the day for Stardust, shinies, and trade bait. If you play GBL, hunt a low-Attack Great League IV spread (community examples people farm include ranks around 0/15/11 class spreads; check your preferred PvP ranker the week of the event). Keep a high IV / hundo path for Ultra if you like the mon.
Special backgrounds
CD special backgrounds are a big part of this format.
| Source | Notes |
|---|---|
| Wild | Low chance (community estimates often land in a small single-digit percent range) |
| Field research | “Catch 3 Nickit” style tasks rotate rewards (balls, Pinaps, dust). Party and bulk-catch tasks are the usual guaranteed background research pattern when they appear |
| $2 CD ticket | Timed research with multiple Nickit encounters, items, and guaranteed special background encounters (ticket often cheaper via web store bundles) |
| Community Ambassador meetups | Extra timed research / encounters when available in your city |
| Lures until 9 p.m. | Background chance can still roll on lure Nickit |
If backgrounds are your collection goal, plan research stack + ticket before 2:00, not at 4:55.
Field research and snapshots
- Spin heavily from 2:00 so “Catch 3 Nickit” tasks refill.
- Snapshots can photobomb Nickit (shiny eligible at CD rates) and chip the Cameraman medal.
- Log interesting backgrounds and shinies in Inventory before you trade them away by accident.
Trade plan for PoGoPit players
| Priority | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Special-trade shiny / background Nickit or Thievul while dust is discounted |
| 2 | Lucky-trade bulk if Friendship Friday energy is still high in your circle |
| 3 | List GL IV Thievul with Icy Wind and background shinies on trades |
| 4 | Keep one evolve-eligible Nickit until you confirm IVs, then evolve inside the window |
What to prioritize on the day
- Star Piece + 3× dust for the full three hours if you only care about account power
- Icy Wind Thievul for GBL (evolve window through ~9 p.m.)
- Shiny + special background collection
- Lure line until 9 p.m. if you cannot play the whole 2 to 5 block
- Special trades on the best shinies before the dust discount ends
Skip building Thievul as a raid Dark attacker. The dust and the move are the win conditions.
Track it on PoGoPit
- Events for the live CD card and timers
- Trades when the shiny flood hits
- Inventory to tag GL IVs, backgrounds, and evolve candidates
