Beldum Weakness in Pokémon GO: Every Counter for Today's Max Monday

August 10, 2026 · SaggyScrotum · 3 min read

Beldum's Steel/Psychic typing has four equal weaknesses: Dark, Fire, Ghost, and Ground. Here's the full matchup breakdown, Max Battle cost, and the best counters for today's Max Monday.

Beldum headlines Max Monday today, August 10, and the question that actually matters before you spend Max Particles is simple: what beats it. Steel/Psychic isn't a scary typing on paper, but if you walk in with the wrong team you'll burn particles for nothing. Here's the actual weakness breakdown and which counters are worth bringing.

If you end up with spare Beldum candy or a Metagross you don't need, the live trade feed is the fastest way to see what other trainers are offering for it.

Beldum's type matchup

MatchupTypes
Weak to (super effective)Dark, Fire, Ghost, Ground
ResistsNormal, Flying, Rock, Grass
TypeSteel / Psychic

Beldum

None of the four weaknesses hits harder than another, Dark, Fire, Ghost, and Ground are all super effective at the same rate against Beldum. Use whichever type you've got the strongest attacker in, there's no "best" element to chase here.

Max Battle basics

DetailValue
Tier3-star Max Battle
Cost400 Max Particles
Recommended group2 to 4 trainers
SoloPossible with a maxed-out counter, but rough
Catch CP (normal)513 to 558
Catch CP (weather boosted)642 to 697
ShinyAvailable, community-reported odds around 1 in 128

Best counters

You don't need Dynamax forms to win this, type advantage carries most of the fight, but Dynamaxing your own Pokémon mid-battle adds a real damage spike once your gauge fills.

  • Fire: Charizard, Blaziken, Cinderace, any Fire attacker with a strong charge move
  • Ghost: Gengar, Chandelure (Shadow form hits harder), Necrozma (Dawn Wings)
  • Dark: Houndoom, Tyranitar, Weavile
  • Ground: Groudon (Primal form if you have it), Excadrill, Garchomp

If your account already has a Mega or Shadow version of any of these, bring it, the type advantage plus the extra multiplier is the fastest way to solo or duo this fight instead of needing a full lobby.

Should you push for Metagross?

Beldum's full line, Metang at 25 candy and Metagross at 100 candy, is a legitimate Steel/Psychic attacker once evolved, and Max Monday is one of the cheaper windows to stack candy since Beldum shows up at every Power Spot that can host a Max Battle today. One thing worth knowing before you commit Stardust to it: Metagross's signature move, Meteor Mash, has historically only been available through Community Day evolutions or an Elite Charged TM, not a guaranteed learn from a regular evolution. Check your moveset before you assume you're getting it.

What to actually prioritize

  1. Bring a type-advantaged attacker before you worry about Dynamaxing anything, Dark, Fire, Ghost, or Ground all work equally well
  2. Group up if you don't have a maxed counter, 400 particles per attempt adds up fast if you're losing solo
  3. Only push the full Metagross evolution if you actually want a Steel/Psychic attacker on your team, not just because candy is cheap today
